I don't normally use fast shutter speeds with water as I like the look of the motion. There is one exception and that's when I need to freeze something in my frame. In this case, I needed to freeze the fisherman as he was moving, and freeze the wave to show the power of it. I lined this shot up so both the fisherman was fishing towards the sun and so the sun was behind the wave to provide nice backlight.
