Flare On

Sunburst and sunflare, Palos Verdes

This was the sunset from this past Friday from Palos Verdes. I waited for the sun to go down and line up with some rocks to get the flare. I also left the dirty lens flare in the shot. Originally I was going to use a shot without it, but since it's confined in a small area I went with it. This was a tricky one to blend as the dynamic range is huge from the bright sun to the dark foreground. Had to use 3 exposures utilizing luminosity masks to blend. Edges were still rough after blending so had to clean them up a bit. Waiting for the day our cameras can pick up this much dynamic range in a single shot without the use of grads.

Nikon D750, Nikkor 20mm 1.8, f/16, ISO-100, blend of 4 sec, 1/15 sec, 1/4 sec
