Los Angeles afterburn

A wider shot from my favorite angle of the city, catching that nice pink afterburn in the sky. The mountain range still had quite a bit of snow, and the air was relatively smog free. Look at all the green in the foreground that we got from all the rain this year. You know I’ll be back here next winter. Nikon D750, Nikkor 70-200, f/11, 4 sec, ISO-50.

Fall Inspired Selfie - Yosemite National Park

A creative edit of yours truly looking out towards Yosemite Falls. It was wet and rainy and I wanted to grab a few shots from here regardless. We got here in the early am before all the tourists came flocking in. What influenced this edit were all the dead pine needles on the ground. So I made the trees the same color, giving the shot a hint of fall vibes. These trees were green in the original shot, and that’s the only thing that was changed. Let me know if you dig it. Malibu hills fog at twilight

After shooting a great sunset with with my friend, we hung around for twilight as the fog activity picked up and poured down the mountains. The house on the left had some cool lights shining through, and the fog was beginning to flow into the lights down on the right as well. Had a tiny bit of light from the moon rising to our back as the scene was almost pitch black by this time. I was hoping for the fog to fill the valley but not too long after this shot, we got fogged in and called it a night.

Second Beach sunset, La Push, Washington

I’m fortunate to live on the coast, and Cali has some amazing stretches of beaches with interesting caves and rock formations. But nothing took my breath away like seeing the seastacks up in Washington. Second Beach in the La Push area of Olympic National Park has some incredible ones. Sometimes, conditions don’t cooperate as with this cloudless night, so I made something out of nothing by focusing my shot on the seastack only. I found a pool of water to create symmetry in this image and used the setting sun to blast that golden light on the right side of the stack.

Malibu Leo Carrillo cave milky way

Here’s a version of my recent outing to Malibu without the human element. The white balance is also warmer here giving the sky a bit more natural color. The contours of this Leo Carrillo cave are very cool and remind me of stalactites. Do you recall the difference between stalactites and stalagmites? Taking you back to school.

Malibu fog pano

Here’s a pano I created in Malibu for an upcoming 4 foot long client metalprint. I’ve been looking to re-create this shot but haven’t been able to catch these conditions again so I took a fresh look at the original files I shot this with. It’s a 4 image pano at 50mm, shot as fog sat in the valley of the Santa Monica Mountains. Various colors were lighting up the fog from the different sources of light below. One of the more unique fog captures I have been able to take and excited that my client will be able to see this bigger.

A Man and his sheep - Eastern Sierra fall colors

I took a few comps of these sheep during my past trip with the fall trees in the back but in this one I framed in the herder. It’s a slightly modified version from the full 2:3 shot as the herder was hugging the right in the 1:1 crop. You can check the full shot under the peoplescape section of my site. Foggy Yosemite

We were up higher shooting down towards the Merced and Yosemite Valley catching some awesome fog flowing through the trees when the fog just rose up and engulfed us. The glow from this tunnel along with the misty mood were enough to get me to shoot this one. I framed the curving ledge in the foreground leading into the scene.
