Lake Perfection - Whistler Mountain

Throwback to when we hiked around Whistler Mountain on out trip up to Canada. This was a random snap from a lake looking over towards Blackcomb Mountain. Wasn't until I got home that I really appreciated the image and the near perfect reflections.

Searching for Sunday - Joshua Tree National Park Arch Rock

Man the weekends go by fast. Y'all thought I was done posting pictures of this arch huh? Had to get some with our flashlights beaming out towards the sky so here is a self portrait of me doing so. Love how the thin clouds really enhance the size of some of the stars. This one has a bit more contrast than the other arch shots I posted. You can see that the clouds pretty much blocked the Milky Way by the time I climbed up here but I wanted to show the scale of this thing as it does tend to look quite small in pictures.

Sepulveda Dam steel wool

 

 

Here is a spin at the Sepulveda dam to get the weekend started right. This was really a test shot to ensure our exposures were on point for the double spins we did but I like the way this one came out with the light really focused under the dam where I was spinning. Left in the vertical distortion as it adds a unique element to the shot. I also like how the solo spins dont really interfere with the lights up top. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

The Pinnacle of Pinnacles - Point Lobos State Reserve

 

 

Throwback to a few years ago when we visited Point Lobos State Reserve while taking a coastal trip. Love this place as it has a lot of great hikes with awesome views. The sky was looking fierce and wasn't sure if it would light up but a bit of color broke through after the sun dipped below the horizon. Love me some storm clouds and when they light up it's a win win.

Desert Milky Way - Anza Borrego

Here is an older image I never shared before that I had a chance to revisit with a fresh edit. Ever shot the Milky Way during twilight? While the stars start to get washed out by the rising sun, the blue sky adds a whole other element to it. I usually shoot cityscapes at twilight but astro shots also work well granted you are in a dark enough area where the stars are still visible. This was taken while camping in Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

Happy Monday hope everyone had a good weekend.  I  wanted to post one from this spot from the peak of sunset as it burned up real good over LA. If I'm shooting thru sunset and twilight I try to move a bit for different comps but if you've been here you know comps are limited. I was able to use one file for this edit as the dynamic range wasn't as great.

The Arch Motel - Joshua Tree National Park

Here is another shot from arch rock in Joshua Tree. This is the shot I envisioned with the lit up tent sitting under the arch and the beautiful Milky Way. Hiking out with my backup tent was no problem as this isn't really a hike but keeping the tent still during the long exposure was hard as it was super windy. Luckily I snapped one where the stayed fairy still. This is a more head on view taken once the core of the Milky Way rose above the arch. Kept the arch slightly darker to emphasize the tent more.
